Who we are

The Alliance for Cardio-Metabolic Health and Research (ACMHR-K) is a global, non-profit organization dedicated to improving prevention, early detection, and management of cardio-metabolic diseases through science, innovation, and societal collaboration.

Founded in Kenya, ACMHR-K serves as an interdisciplinary platform that unites researchers, clinicians, nutritionists, public-health practitioners, and policymakers to address the growing burden of diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and related metabolic conditions.

We believe that evidence-based research, community engagement, and equitable policy action are crucial to transforming the global landscape of cardiovascular and metabolic health.

Vision

A world where cardio-metabolic diseases are prevented, understood, and managed equitably through science, innovation, and collaboration.

Mission

To advance research, education, and partnerships that improve cardio-metabolic health, strengthen health systems, and promote equity across societies.

Core Values:

  • Scientific Excellence: We uphold the highest standards of research integrity and innovation.

  • Collaboration: We foster partnerships across academia, healthcare, and government sectors.

  • Equity: We work to reduce health disparities in all communities.

  • Accountability: We ensure transparency in all our programs and governance.

  • Empowerment: We educate and empower individuals to take charge of their health.

Our Story

ACMHR-K emerged from a shared realization among Kenyan and international researchers that cardio-metabolic diseases are rapidly becoming the leading cause of morbidity and mortality across Africa and globally.

While significant progress has been made in infectious disease control, the rising burden of non-communicable diseases — particularly diabetes and hypertension—calls for a united, research-driven, and socially grounded approach.

Guided by this vision, ACMHR-K was founded as a platform to integrate scientific research, public education, and policy advocacy. From its roots in Kenya, the Alliance is expanding to build a global network that connects knowledge, fosters innovation, and strengthens health systems across societies.

Our Focus

We are currently developing programs and partnerships in five key areas:

  1. Diabetes & Nutrition – Exploring the role of diet, micronutrients, and local food systems in prevention and management.

  2. Hypertension & Heart Health – Promoting early detection, risk awareness, and lifestyle modification.

  3. Lifestyle & Prevention – Advocating for physical activity, mental health, and healthy living.

  4. Herbal & Traditional Medicine – Investigating indigenous and complementary remedies through scientific research.

  5. Research & Policy Advocacy – Bridging data and decision-making for equitable health outcomes.
