National Dialogue on the Regulation of Industrial Trans-Fats in Kenya
Theme: Regulation of Industrial Trans-Fats in Kenya
About This Program
The Alliance for Cardio-Metabolic Health and Research-Kenya (ACMHR-K) participated in a multi-stakeholder engagement, which was hosted by the International Institute for Legislative Affairs (ILA) to discuss the regulation of industrially produced trans fatty acids (iTFAs) in Kenya. The forum brings together researchers, public health experts, civil society organizations, journalists, digital advocates, faith leaders, and policy actors to deliberate on evidence-based strategies for protecting Kenyans from the harmful effects of trans fats. On 10 to 12th May 2026, this team of stakeholders held discussions focused on the science behind trans fats, legal and policy reforms, consumer protection, media advocacy, grassroots mobilization, and industry accountability. ACMHRK joined other stakeholders in highlighting the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) linked to unhealthy diets and harmful food environments. Industrially produced trans fats are associated with increased risks of cardiovascular diseases, stroke, hypertension, diabetes, and other cardio-metabolic conditions that continue to affect many Kenyan households. ACMHR-K will continue to engage in meaningful partnerships aimed at advancing healthier food environments and stronger consumer protection.
