National Dialogue on the Regulation of Industrial Trans-Fats in Kenya

About This Program

The Alliance for Cardio-Metabolic Health and Research-Kenya (ACMHR-K) is participating in a multi-stakeholder policy programme on the elimination and regulation of industrially produced trans fatty acids (iTFAs) in Kenya. The programme is hosted by the International Institute for Legislative Affairs (IILA) and brings together researchers, public health experts, civil society organizations, journalists, faith leaders, and policymakers to advance evidence-based public health nutrition policies. From 10th to 12th May 2026, ACMHR-K joined other stakeholders in discussions on the regulation of industrially produced trans fatty acids and their impact on non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including cardiovascular diseases, stroke, hypertension, and diabetes. The engagement focused on scientific evidence, policy reforms, consumer protection, media advocacy, and industry accountability. As part of the ongoing programme, stakeholders are disseminating the Policy Brief on the Elimination of Industrially Produced Trans Fatty Acids and receiving updates on the regulatory process. The policy brief provides evidence-based recommendations to support the development and implementation of effective iTFA regulations in Kenya. This is an ongoing programme that will continue through subsequent policy development and implementation phases. ACMHR-K remains committed to supporting this initiative as it progresses from policy development to implementation. The Alliance will continue working with IILA and other stakeholders to promote healthier food environments, strengthen consumer protection, and reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases in Kenya.
